Evony makes Cents
Evony, a free online RTS game, gives new meaning to the term Multiplayer game. It is a MMORPG, or a MMORTS pronounced ‘muh-morg’ , and ‘muh-ort’ or pretty much any way you want to try to pronounce it. Basically, this means it is a MASSIVE Multiplayer online game as in big, huge, as in, over 10 million players world wide at the time of this article. And it is still growing with over 100 servers now, and new servers for specific languages popping up even as I write this. Providing E-Commerce Solutions not Just a Website
So what is a web developer’s responsibility to an E-Commerce client? Do we choose a shopping cart platform, create the CSS, populate the database, and then send them on their way? What about the actual numbers involved with running a business? As with any retail business, choosing an electronic payment provider is important. Unlike a retail business, the e-commerce site can ONLY accept payments for products and services electronically. Ironically, I find e-commerce sites often have put little to no thought into choosing a payment processing provider for their business, when it is the only method excepted online! A website cannot accept cash or check after all. So rather than just providing a quick plug & play solution, I feel it is the web developer’s responsibility to educate their clients about online payment processing before creating a payment module.
