A recent WordPress site I did, the business owner called me back before he had decided to go forward with service. He said he talked to his brother who was ‘real good at web stuff’ and that he told him WordPress was for blogging. I gave it a moment and then said …………….. ‘yep’…. (pause for effect)
So he was concerned about creating a professional web presence using some kind of journal writing platform. After explaining to him the best I could that WordPress is built on the php/mysql platform, that it was actually more of a CMS than most self-described CMS platforms available, and after explaining that it was a ‘website’, he finally committed. And of course his site looks and behaves like any well made business website out there. The only thing is, well simply put, its still a blog. The irony is that this little fact, this tiny little ‘drawback’ to the WordPress Business site image is actually its greatest weapon. Look at at this way:
1. Customer needs products or service
2. Customer searches for products and services online
3. Customer finds your business and gets products and services.
STOP if you don’t have a blog
4. You post articles about what you know, your business, and up-to-date information for your customers.
5. Customer and potential customers read and post comments on your ‘blog’
6. Customer subscribes to your ‘blog’
7. You give customer rewards for subscribing to your ‘blog’.
8. Your customer smiles and comes back for more business.
9. Your WordPress Business Site smiles.
10. Your WordPress Developer says ‘told you so’.
If your passionate about your business. If you like what you have to offer customers and want to share and promote your products and services then WordPress truly is an excellent platform for your small business.
